An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses light energy to create heat. These saunas are also sometimes called far-infrared saunas because these waves of non-visible light fall on the “far” end of the light spectrum.

As the energy of these heat waves penetrate into the body, infrared sauna users find benefits at a lower, more comfortable temperature than in a traditional steam sauna.

Traditional saunas heat the air, but infrared saunas heat objects up to a depth of 1.5 inches (this means it heats you and not the air you breathe in!). Traditional saunas reach temperatures of 160-200 degrees, while most people find that a infrared sauna temperature setting between 120-130 degrees is optimal.

Infrared saunas provide a comfortable and relaxing experience, and they have many health benefits. General health benefits include:

  • Muscle pain relief & improved muscle recovery
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Increased metabolism & weight loss
  • Immune system boost
  • Stress & fatigue reduction
  • Better skin health
  • Decreased joint pain and stiffness

There are also many research-based claims that infrared saunas can improve symptoms of many chronic health issues. These include:

  • Arthritis (including rheumatoid and osteoarthritis)
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Autoimmune diseases (including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis,
  • Fibromyalgia
    Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Chronic pain
  • COPD
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Seasonal Affective Disorder

This is not a complete list as many other conditions may benefit from infrared sauna use. The following are articles about infrared sauna and several of the listed conditions. Check out the very last link if you would like to find out more about the type of sauna we offer.
